Katharine McPhee has revealed that her dad passed away just a couple of weeks after she got engaged to David Foster. The American Idol winner shared the news to her fans via her Instagram account.
In her post, McPhee included a photo with her dad, the two of them smiling. McPhee thanked all her family and friends who prayed for her dad, especially in the last 48 hours before he passed away.
Before the singer-actress shared the news, she first told her followers that she would not be able to perform at her weekend shows in New York City because she had to rush back to Los Angeles. At the time, McPhee also said that it breaks her heart to not be able to perform for her fans on Broadway.

Last year, the Scorpion star credited her parents for her singing and acting talent. Her mom is a vocal coach and her dad was a TV producer. During her previous interview, McPhee said that she always imagined that she would become a huge star like Mariah Carey one day.
"I never thought in a small way. I always dreamed big," said the singer.
In related news, McPhee got engaged to Foster earlier this month. The singer shared the news about her engagement on Instagram. She said that Foster, 68, popped the question while they were in Anacapri. This will be McPhee's second marriage.
Katharine McPhee, Nick Cokas Divorce
The Smash alum we previously married to Nick Cokas, but they divorced in 2016. However, they first announced their split in 2014. Court documents revealed that McPhee and Cokas will be dividing the money that the former earned when she starred on Smash.
Cokas also received half of his ex-wife's $700,000 contract with Columbia and Epic Records. While they were together for six years, all of the money that McPhee earned from her records will also be divided between her and her ex-husband. Every year, McPhee is also required to pay Cokas $400,000 in spousal support.
Linda Thompson Weighs In On Engagement
Foster's ex-wife, Linda Thompson, is reportedly worried about McPhee and Foster's huge age gap. McPhee is 34 and Foster is 68.
"I wish them well. I think the only thing that's a real deterrent, I think, is the age difference," said Thompson.
Thompson and Foster were married in 1991, and they divorced in 2005.
