On Twitter last week, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy confirmed that the band's next album would hopefully be “ready for next summer.” In another tweet, Bellamy also revealed that the new album would be heavy.
This new album, which will be Muse’s seventh, will be the band’s first since 2012’s electronic-influenced The 2nd Law. The group reportedly began recording the album back in May, with Bellamy hinting at this new “heavy” direction, saying, “I have a strong feeling that he next album should be something that really does strip away the additional things that we’ve experimented with on the last two albums, which is electronics, symphonics, and orchestral work and all that kind of stuff.”
In an interview with KROQ, Bellamy revealed some of the influences on Muse’s new stripped down sound, saying, “I kind of thought I’d write purer music if I didn’t have any outside influence at all…I’ve gone back, I’m listening to a lot of music, especially classic rock music, which I haven’t listened to for a very long time. I’m getting really back into that.”
