The Weeknd's 'After Hours' supposedly reference Bella Hadid, Selena Gomez

Supposed references pointing to high-profile exes Bella Hadid and Selena Gomez have surfaced as Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd, finally drops his fourth album "After Hours" precisely at midnight, March 20, EDT.

As streaming sites pick up The Weeknd's latest studio album, four years after the previous album "Starboy" and a month after the title track, keen listeners claim that top American model Bella Hadid inspires some tracks.

One of the strongest contenders for these 'After Hours' references is in the title track itself, with the theories following shortly after its February 2020 release. Lines in the first part, "'Cause my heart belongs to you/ I'll risk it all for you ... This time I'll never leave" seemingly shows Tesfaye's calls at winning Hadid back over. Furthermore, the following lines "I wanna share babies/ Protection, we won't need", have been linked to The Weeknd's prospects of marriage. A November 2018 article from US Weekly reported the couple being "madly in love" and that a "proposal could be soon."

Another favorite in the "After Hours" easter egg hunt comes from the track "Escape from LA." He pulls no punches calling his ex "a cold-hearted b****." He then drops the next line which sent fans into a frenzy, "She got Chrome Hearts hangin' from her neck."

Chrome hearts is a cosmopolitan brand for accessories and jewelry. Hadid has long been associated with the brand and has released a few product lines with them.

Other fans, however, find Selena Gomez right before Escape's outro. Fans are convinced the line "She's all mine until he calls her line" alludes to singer Justin Bieber, reportedly being the cause of their breakup.

Further convincing fans of Gomez's presence in The Weeknd's fourth album is the opening in "Save Your Tears." Fans cannot dismiss the lines "I saw you dancing in a crowded room/ You look so happy when I'm not with you" as mere coincidence. A song titled "Crowded Room" is the ninth track in Gomez's "Rare" album.

Famous for hits "Can't Feel My Face," "Earned It," and "Starboy," The Weeknd started connecting with Hadid back in 2015, starting an on-again, off-again relationship. A well-documented chapter of this story is when Tesfaye reportedly had a public relationship with Selena Gomez. A few months after Tesfaye and Gomez broke up in October, he began dating Hadid again. Finally, they called it quits in August 2019.

The Weeknd can be seen wearing a red suit and showing a bruised face, bloody teeth, and broken nose on the album cover as well as the front cover of the LP. Also, none of the 14 tracks in this album feature any other artists unlike in his previous works. His last album, "Starboy," featured collaborations with other large names such as Daft Punk and Kendrick Lamar.

"After Hours" is now available online on all major music streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music.
