Why the Taylor Swift Bracket is Trending Now

Taylor Swift bracket went trending when Tom Ziller (@teammziller), an NBA contributor, tweeted about it last March 15. The author of the newsletter Good Morning, It's Basketball apparently, was caught up staying home due to the coronavirus crisis, tweeting that it was "my solution to pandemic boredom."

Zillar's tweet gained 7k likes and was caught immediately by Swift's followers. Swifties then shared their own Taylor Swift bracket on the following days. The challenge was to list down several of her hits from different albums on the left and right sides of the sheet. Then the songs are narrowed and drilled down based on which one is better until it reaches the final four and the ultimate champion.

The sports section of The Spectrum, which is part of the USA Today Network, placed the bracket on the list of alternative "5 Quarantine-Killing brackets" on March 19. The Swifties bracket was placed at number three. Other sportswriters who are music lovers took on and accomplished the challenge then posted it on Twitter. Some published it on their websites, clearly influenced by Ziller's tweet.

Ziller completed his Taylor Swift bracket the following day after posting it. He went on to share his learnings on his newsletter, where he admitted the hits were ranked based on peak chart positions.
