A History
Women's History Month started as Women's History Week during the late '70s in Santa Rosa, California. It was celebrated on the week of March 8 to coincide with International Women's Day. The movement then spread throughout the country.
Soon after, through resolutions by the Congress and Presidential Proclamations, March was declared as Women's History Month to be held yearly. This commemoration is set aside to laud women's contributions to American history. An annual theme is selected by the National Women's History Alliance. For this year 2020, "Valiant Women of the Vote" was chosen to be the theme.
