Grammy-winning singer and actress Jennifer Hudson will host a concert from her "home to yours" on Instagram later at 4PM, Eastern Time.
In the video posted on Hudson's official IG page yesterday, March 24, the American Idol alum dropped the schedule for Pacific, Central, and Eastern times.
"Guess where I'll be? Right here at home where we all need to be, staying safe, keeping our families safe and following the rules."
She continued that she will be hosting the concert "to encourage you all to stay home." Hudson then sang the opening line of The Beatles' "I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends" to invite her 2.9M followers.
Also, according to the caption accompanying the video announcement, Hudson shares credits with her "friends at @Glblctzn," the tag corresponding to Global Citizen, which describes itself as a group working "to end extreme poverty by 2030."
The "The Voice" coach has slated her online concert coinciding with Aretha Franklin's birthday. Hudson is set to portray The Queen of Soul in the upcoming biopic "Respect." Fans and critics are excited to see the movie feature Franklin's greatest hits including the titular "Respect," as well as "I Say A Little Prayer", "Natural Woman", and "Chain of Fools." Aside from performing her hits and recreating her finest performances, the movie is expected to cover the singer's life, from her church choir days to stardom and latter participation in the civil rights movement.
This will be the first authorized feature film to depict Franklin's life, written by Emmy-nominee Trace Scott Wilson, known for her work on FX TV series The Americans and Fosse/Verdon. The upcoming biopic will be directed by Obie-award winner and Tony-nominee Liesl Tommy.
It is also worth noting that JHud was personally handpicked by Aretha Franklin to portray her in the yet-unnamed upcoming biopic. American record producer Clive Davis first revealed this information in a pre-Grammy party.
Jennifer Hudson began her career auditioning for American Idol's third season. Judge Randy Jackson commented that she "just finished work on the Disney Cruise Ship" and said that they're expecting better than the cruise ship performance. She sang Aretha Franklin's "Share Your Love with Me" earning a positive response from all three judges.
While she was among the top contestants, having received the highest number of votes for her rendition of "Circle of Life" by Elton Johnn, her Idol journey was cut short when she was eliminated two weeks later at the Top 7 round.
A few years later, MTV would rank her as the sixth greatest Idol and her exit the most shocking of all time. The Los Angeles Times would also regard her highly, placing her after Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood as the third best American Idol.
Hudson is also widely recognized for her role as Effie White in Dreamgirls, the film adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name. This role earned her her first Oscars trophy as she was named Best Supporting Actress in 2007. Her performance of the musical's signature hit, "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" previously performed onstage by Jennifer Holliday, received critical acclaim.
Hudson was also among the coaches of the hit singing competition "The Voice," for its 13th and 15th seasons. She was also a coach for its United Kingdom franchise, "The Voice UK," from the sixth to the eighth seasons. The concert later includes Hudson into the ranks of musicians performing online in the middle of the coronavirus outbreak. Just yesterday, epic producers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz held their online beat battle. Even Insomniac Events, EDM and house authority, pushed their Beyond Wonderland festival through a YouTube live stream.
