Kenny Rogers died of natural causes last week at the age of 81. His death was announced by his family on Twitter and asked for a private funeral to avoid crowded ceremonies amid the recent coronavirus pandemic.
Aside from being a singer, Rogers is also a successful actor and author. Here released a memoir in 2013, "Luck or Something Like It: A Memoir", while his last appearance on a TV show was in the 8th episode of Reno 911's season 2.
Rogers is also the co-founder of the famous Kenny Rogers Roasters chicken restaurant chain.
Even though he ventured into different careers, it is no doubt the industry where he left the most significant mark in the music industry. Let us look back at some of his songs.
1. Through the Years
This song is the trademark song of Mr. Rogers. It is used as a song for anniversaries, tributes, and many more, according to Taste of County. It is technically a love song, but the people use it as a song for what happened in the past years of their lives. This song is the second Kenny Rogers trademark after his chicken restaurant.
2. The Gambler
The Gambler is one of the most popular songs made by Rogers. If Through the Years is his legacy song, The Gambler was the one that earned him a Grammy. According to Billboard, his delivery of lines in the song easily flowed, making it memorable like the Through the Years. The Gambler is also made into a TV Movie.
3. Lucille
Lucille is the song that made him move into country music. Hal Bynum produces this, and it tells the story of a man about to fall in love with his female love interest. It is said to be the largest hit song in Toledo, Ohio.
4. She Believes in Me
The song was released in 1979, and it is said to be a follow up to The Gambler. It is a song about a woman that still believes in a man struggling in the music business. It is one of the top hits in Adult Contemporary charts, and it was on a fifth-place on Hot 100.
5. I Prefer The Moonlight
The song was released in the 1980s. His recordings in RCA are doing well in the charts, including the hit "Islands In The Stream" with fellow singer Dolly Parton. Some of his works were overlooked due to tough competition with new genres like rock and pop. This, despite doing great in the charts.
Rogers sold 100 million copies of his recordings in his whole career that spanned six decades before his retirement and recent death.
