Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato donate equipment to medical first responders

"One and The Same" artists Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato support medical first responders with equipment against the coronavirus, in separate efforts, April 1.

Selena Gomez, the "Rare" and "Hands to Myself" hitmaker, made a donation to the staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. In the tweet posted yesterday, March 31, Gomez expressed appreciation to "every single medical professional who is putting their health on the line to take care of others." She then said that she will donate to the L.A. hospital reportedly low on masks and ventilators.

In 2017, Selena had to undergo a kidney transplant procedure performed at Cedars-Sinai. "They've taken such good care of me so it's my turn to show my gratitude," she said.

Meanwhile, Demi Lovato is also extending efforts to help in the fight against the highly contagious disease. In her official Instagram account, she revealed that she nearly cancelled her April 2 launch for a "brand-new collection" with Fabletics. However, after "going back and forth" on this event, she decided to push through with the launch and announced that "$5 for every item sold will provide crucial gear to frontline workers." Demi also committed up to $125,000 from March 31 up to the end of June. The pledge will be given to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization.

The "Sorry Not Sorry" and "Stone Cold" artist's new collection for Kate Hudson's activewear brand is designed to make people "feel empowered, invincible, and strong from the inside out." The IG statement also stated that "there's no better time to inspire others."

Demi Lovato is also among the celebrities who performed in the Fox and iHeartMedia collab "iHeart Living Room Concert for America," hosted by Elton John. The fundraiser, broadcast both on television as well as on online live streaming sites, also featured Alicia Keys, Dave Grohl, Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, and Mariah Carey and featured appearances from figures such as Lizzo, Lady Gaga, Ciara, and Ellen DeGeneres. It managed to generate over $8 million which will then be used to support Feeding American as well as the First Responders Children's Foundation.

Both Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato have previously worked together on Disney sitcom "Sonny With a Chance," where Selena guested in the show Demi starred in. They would work together again in the Disney Channel 2009 original "Princess Protection Program", where they also performed the song "One and the Same."

Aside from their projects together, the friends each have a successful career. Demi Lovato was a judge and mentor in the second and third seasons of "The X Factor USA", earning her a Guinness World Record for being the youngest judge to take a seat on the show, just being a little over 19 years old at that time in 2014, when the record was set. Demi Lovato also has a lot of accolades and awards under her name, including 14 Teen Choice Awards, two Latin American Music Awards, as well as being one of Time 100's most influential people in 2017.

Selena, on the other hand, has starred in a lot of screen roles starting from the lead in "Wizards of Waverly Place" from 2007 to 2012. She then starred in other films such as "Another Cinderella Story", "Spring Breakers", and "The Dead Don't Die." She also lent her voice for Mavis in the commercially-successful Hotel Transylvania movies. The 27-year-old hyphenate was also among the executive producers of Netflix hit series "13 Reasons Why" and the documentary "Living Undocumented."
