Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) Las Vegas Set to Move to October Due to Coronavirus

The Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) Las Vegas is set to be moved to October due to coronavirus risks, most probably 2 to 4, according to a report by Billboard.

Until an official statement is released, the spring EDM fest is still set for May 15-17, according to the official website. However, Billboard sources say that the organizers of the event are already planning to move it to a fall weekend in response to the Covid-19 risks. There has been no information regarding a change in venue, but the original schedule in May will be at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

This year's sold-out festival boasts a staggering line up of about 250 performers across three days of EDM extravaganza, including big names such as DJ Snake, David Guetta, Major Lazer, Martin Garrix, Tiesto, and The Chainsmokers.

The Electric Daisy Carnival is held in both Las Vegas and in Orlando. EDC is one of North America's largest electronic dance music (EDM) events, establishing a record 450,000 events last year, leading to EDC Las Vegas being called the world's largest dance music festival.

EDC Las Vegas' impending postponement to fall follows another EDM event, Beyond Wonderland. The Southern California EDM fest was moved to June 19-20 from its original March 20-21at San Bernardino's NOS Event Center. Insomniac Events organizes both Beyond Wonderland and EDC Las Vegas.

To make up for fans bummed by the Beyond Wonderland cancellation, Insomniac decided to hold a "Virtual Rave-a-thon" instead, where guest DJs played sets on a live session streamed on YouTube. EDM household names, including Kill the Noise and Party Favor, dropped beats as social distancing reminders pop up on the corner of the live stream.

The modern version of the Electric Daisy Festival fans have known and loved traces its roots to a 1997 warehouse party by Insomniac Founder and CEO Pasquale Rotella in Los Angeles. Since then, it has grown into a two-day event in 2009 and to a three-day event in 2011. The massive music event, attended by hundreds of thousands of party-goers, has spawned events in other parts of the world, including the UK, Japan, and Mexico.

For the 2020 incarnation, there will be ten different stages, each having unique aesthetic and playing a specific EDM subgenre. The EDC Opening Ceremony, for example, will be held at the cosmicMEADOW stage, where mainstream hitmakers play electronic and hip-hop beats. Another famed stage is the circuitGROUNDS, filled with LED walls and neon overhead displays accompanying up-and-coming electronic music icons. For minimalists who prefer dim lights and deep house audio, neonGARDEN is the stage to be. Party-goers who prefer dubstep, drum & bass, or trap music, bassPOD is the EDC Las Vegas' forefront of the Bassrush movement.

Aside from three days of non-stop partying, EDC Las Vegas also supports multiple charities through a percentage of its ticket sales. Insomniac has raised more than $2 million since 2011, according to its website. They have helped charitable institutions responding to a variety of causes such as self-care and abuse help, environmental awareness, as well as groups for law enforcement and first responders.
