Tekashi Released
Tekashi 6ix9ine was released last Thursday from the Queens Detention Facility in New York City due to the coronavirus pandemic that is already ravaging the city. U.S Federal Court judge Paul Engelmayer said that the pandemic presented an "extraordinary and compelling" reasons for the release of Tekashi.
Lawyers headed by Lance Lazzaro said that Tekashi 6ix9ine's remainder of his sentence will be in his home. Lawyers said that he was complaining to the prison officials due to his shortness of breath but the warden prohibited the rapper to go to the hospital despite the recommendation of the medical doctor. The doctor said that he was supposed to be treated at the hospital, according to Yahoo Entertainment.
Lazzaro revealed to that Tekashi had "serious asthma attacks" and had a history of bronchitis.
Judge Engelmayer wrote an order of release earlier before. "Had the Court known that sentencing Mr. Hernandez to serve the final four months of his term in a federal prison would have exposed him to a heightened health risk, the Court would have directed that these four months be served instead in home confinement," said the court order.
Tekashi's Controversies
Tekashi is one of the most controversial rappers in the music industry. He was sentenced to two years in prison last year due to firearms and racketeering complaints. He was supposed to face 37 years in prison but he was allowed for leniency after he testified against members of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang. His sentence, according to Insider, will end in August.
Aside from Nine Trey, he was also sued by Fashion Nova due to his conflict with Cardi B. He was also involved in a brawl in Los Angeles Airport in 2018. Last month, a sex video allegedly involving his ex-partner, Sara Molina and his former manager Kifano Jordan or Shotti went viral. Neither Molina nor Jordan released a statement regarding the issue.
He was also charged with criminal complaints in 2015 when he shared a sex video with a minor. He plead guilty to the crime. In 2019, he was arrested for choking a young girl in a mall in Texas. Tekashi made a first request for a release from jail due to the pandemic but was denied.
Other Appeals
Like Tekashi, R. Kelly and Kodak Black were also being subject to prison transfer and early release. Kodak Black was transferred from his present jail in Florida to the Niagara County Jail in New York temporarily. He was arrested due to illegal possession of weapons and marijuana at the U.S. Canada border.
Kelly's defense team appealed for his early release from the Chicago Metropolitan Correctional Center while waiting for his trial in Illinois. He was charged with child pornography and racketeering.
