Rising rapper and model Chynna Rogers died last Wednesday night. She was 25 years old.
The Philadelphia native Brooklyn-based rapper and model was said to have died from accidental drug over dose according James Garrow, Philadelphia Department of Health spokesperson according to NBC News.
"Chynna was deeply loved and will be sorely missed," according to the statement of her family to NBC and Fox News.
Her death was also told by her manager John Miller. She was survived by her father Michael Magness, her brothers and sister.
Rogers was born on August 19, 1994 in Philadelphia. She began her career as a fashion model when she was 14 years old. She was discovered by a scout from Ford Models at Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park in Jackson N.J. A year later she made friendship with Steven Rodriguez known as A$AP Yams who formed a hip-hop group A4AP Mob. Rodriguez became her mentor and encourage her to make her own rhymes. In 2015, A$AP Yams died of accidental overdose.
Chynna released solo singles like Selfie in 2013 and Glen Coco in 2014 in which received critical praise and millions of spins on streaming sites like Sportify or SoundCloud. She performed alongside A$AP mob, including in the SXSW in Austin, T.X in 2015. She has released EPs like "I'm Not Here" in 2015 an "This Isn't Happening" in 2016.
In her interview from Pitchfork in 2018, she opened up about her addiction and her mother's death. The said that she did not feel to become successful because she has not yet "gone through terrible stuff."
In one of her last posts this year was due to she is committed to her music whether or not she will perform due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Many artists mourned her death via Twitter. Artists like Kehlani, Dom M cLennon and A$AP Mob mourned her death and shared her pictures for remembrance. Kehlani remembered all the jokes they shared. Dom McLennon gave a short message saying that Rogers needs more love.
Mac P Dawg Update
Meanwhile, Los Angeles Police are now on a hunt against the suspect who shot and killed Mac P Dawg last Monday night.
Yahoo Music and The Wrap reported that according to LAPD public information officer Norma Eisenman, Mac P Dawg or Joshua Andrade Galvez in real life was shot before 8 pm Pacific Time. The suspect also shot an unidentified woman. The crime happened in the Koreatown neighborhood.
The unnamed victim, about 20 years old was transported to a local hospital and was already at stable condition.
According to Eisenman, the gunman walked to Galvez and the woman, fired multiple rounds and shot both of the victims. Galvez, unlike the woman was declared dead after 8 pm. "The suspect fled in a vehicle in an unknown direction," she added.
The name of the suspect was not yet been released. Eisenman said that the investigation is ongoing.
Galvez just released a music video last month titled Same Kid in collaboration with fellow rapper Bayline. He also released music videos alongside his friends Fenix Flexin and Ohgessy last year.
