American rapper Future's 2016 mixtape "Purple Reign" is now released on major streaming services, April 16.
As the global coronavirus pandemic brings the music industry to a halt, with music festivals and concerts being postponed. In an effort to keep fans uplifted during the quarantine period, Future has released his previous mixtapes "Monster" (2014), "Beast Mode" and "56 Nights" (2015) across major streaming services.
After the streaming trifecta, the former Dungeon Family member has released the next treat in his belt. "Purple Reign" still sports the original cover art intended as a tribute to the landmark Prince album "Purple Rain," originally released in 1984.
The 2016 mixtape was originally executive-produced and hosted by DJ Esco and Metro Boomin and features production from Future's frequent collaborators including Southside, DJ Spinz, Nard & B, and Zaytoven.
His fourth release for the fans has sent the "Jumpman" rapper and his collaborators among the trending topics on Twitter. "Purple Reign" remains among the top trends in the United States, being at the top shortly after the release.
Life Is Good
Earlier this year, Future released "Life is Good," which featured Canadian hip-hop superstar Drake. Upon release, it debuted right at the number two position on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first song to spend its first two months in that spot.
In a recent interview with XXL, the Atlanta-based rapper confirmed that the Drake-supported track is set to be the title track of his upcoming eighth studio album. He described the ongoing project as being "about life and being good and just enjoying life," further noting that a lot of catastrophes and tragedies happen around the world.
Atlanta's Future
Born Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn, the Atlanta-native is a rapper-songwriter as well as a record producer. He started in the music industry as a part of the second generation of the hip-hop and R&B collective "The Dungeon Family."
He signed his major contract under Epic Records and A1 Recordings, which was owned by American rapper Rocko. His first two albums, "Pluto" (2012) and "Honest" (2014), were both released to generally positive reviews.
The trilogy of his hit mixtapes now available on Spotify and Apple Music were released within a year - "Monster" in late 2014, and "Beast Mode" and "56 Nights" in early 2015.
Future's third studio album, "DS2," was released in mid-2015 via A1 Recordings and his own record label, "Freebrandz." It featured works from Metro Boomin, Southside, and Zaytoven who all became frequent collaborators of the Freebrandz founder. It was followed by "Evol" in 2016, the fourth studio album first released on DJ Khaled's "We The Best Radio" on Beats 1, also debuting at the top of the Billboard 200.
His next two albums, "Future" and "Hndrxx," both released in 2017, made history as Future was the first musician since 2014 to debut albums consecutively at the top of the Billboard 200. His last album to date, "The Wizrd," last year, also debuted at the top of the charts.
Future's mixtapes and albums have spawned a number of hits certified gold or higher by the Recording Industry Association of America, including "Turn on the Lights" from his debut album and the recent "Life is Good."
