Coronavirus Battle Left Christopher Cross "Unable to Walk"

Two weeks after confirming positive for COVID-19, Christopher Cross updated his fans on his ongoing recovery from the highly contagious disease, April 16.

In a Facebook post, the Grammy award-winning artist started with an expression of gratitude for the "kind words and to let you know how I am doing."

Cross then recounted how he contracted the coronavirus and the time it took for him to get tested. Although the singer-songwriter became "very ill," he was fortunate not to have any respiratory complications.

.Although the "Think of Laura" and "Sailing" artist has been recovering, he experienced other problems due to COVID-19. "At present, I am suffering from intense muscle weakness and temporary paralysis of my legs - I am unable to walk," Cross disclosed. He was, however, assured by his doctors that the condition is temporary, and he will recover.

He has also shared starting his physical therapy sessions. Cross then thanked his girlfriend, his management team, his friends and family, as well as the medical team who worked on him.

"I look forward to beginning my 40th Anniversary Tour, and when I do, I hope to see you all," the Texas native added.

Musicians Under the Coronavirus Pandemic

He first confirmed testing positive for the coronavirus disease in a social media post last April 3, saying that he is "among the growing number of Americans" who have contracted the contagious disease. Cross then clarified that although he's not public about his health, he shared this news to help people understand how severe the global pandemic is.

Christopher Cross then advised people to stay home, wash their hands, and follow the science. He also promoted the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to better educate people on the contagious disease.

Cross is among the growing number of musicians testing positive for the highly contagious disease, which has already claimed legends such as Manu Dibango, John Prine, Eddy Davis, and Adam Schlesinger. Among the artists who have tested positive for COVID-19 includes Sara Bareilles, Geto Boys member Scarface, and singer-actress, Rita Wilson.

Born Christopher Charles Geppert, the San Antonio, Texas singer-songwriter, started his musical career with a local cover band called "Flash" before signing under Warner Bros. in 1978. He released his eponymous debut album in 1979. His self-titled debut spawned hits that landed at the top 20 of the Hot 100, including "Never Be The Same" and "Sailing."

"Sailing" would become one of Cross' best hits, earning the Grammy award for "Record of the Year" and "Song of the Year." The album belongs to, "Christopher Cross," won "Album of the Year" and Cross himself "Best New Artist." It is the first time that a single artist won all four general awards in the Grammys and would not happen again until Billie Eilish's victory earlier this year.

A common feature among Cross' albums is that a flamingo appears on every cover. He explains on his website that "there is no real meaning behind the flamingo." In the FAQ section of his site, he shared that a former band member painted the bird on his debut album cover, and it got stuck ever since.
