John Krasinski threw a star-studded virtual Prom night for the class of 2020 on the latest episode of his YouTube show, "Some Good News," April 18.
The virtual news and talk show from "The Office" star has been about sharing good news as well as creating his own, now in the form of hosting a prom to make sure high schoolers get the experience even in the middle of quarantine.
Famous artists including the Jonas Brothers, Billie Eilish, and Finneas, and Chance the Rapper dropped by the live-streamed event. John Krasinski kicked off the prom by announcing that he would host the event and DJ too.
Actor Rainn Wilson, who also starred opposite Krasinski in "The Office," dropped by and sampled Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way" before handing the screen to the Jonas Brothers. The trio of Nick, Joe, and Kevin, in full prom glamor, performed their 2019 hit "Sucker."
The Jonas Brothers also shared that they weren't able to attend prom themselves until their SGN guesting. Krasinski said, "Thank you so much for being on this extremely, extremely budget show."
Lyrical prodigy Chance The Rapper also attended the prom, in a comfortable casual outfit. Krasinski, Chance, and Wilson all danced to the rapper's 2016 gospel rap "All We Got, featuring Drake.
After chatting with a teenage lady with her dad, Krasinski called in his next guests. The siblings Billie and Finneas sported a simpler getup. After dropping the video call for a while, due to bad reception, the siblings returned in better video quality and performed the Grammy 2020 "Song of the Year," "Bad Guy."
"And that's it, class of 2020, the craziest weirdest prom just happened," the SGN host said. He also recognized that the kids are already missing a lot of other things, so he "couldn't let prom be one of them." Krasinski closed his latest episode sharing a positive message and dancing to Sister Sledge's upbeat anthem "We Are Family" in the background.
Krasinski explained that when high schoolers of 2020 thought they were missing prom and listening to their family's prom memories, they can now ask if Billie Eilish, the Jonas Brothers, or Chance the Rapper played in their dance.
About two weeks ago, John Krasinski's "Some Good News" made some good news as he gathered the cast of Broadway hit "Hamilton" for a young fan who unfortunately can't see the musical due to the coronavirus pandemic. The child instead watched "Mary Poppins Returns," which starred Krasinski's wife, Emily Blunt, according to a tweet by the child's mother. A little while later, Lin-Manuel Miranda himself dropped by the couple's Zoom conference with the 9-year-old Aubrey. Miranda also starred opposite Blunt in the Disney movie.
"If you can't go to Hamilton, we're bringing Hamilton to you," John Krasinski said.
Then the Zoom conference started being flooded by different cast members of the Broadway hit. Daveed Diggs, Phillipa Soo, Okieriete Onaodowan, Christopher Jackson, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Javier Muñoz, and Jonathan Groff all came together for an impressive rendition of the chorus "Alexander Hamilton".
