Broadway Star Nick Cordero's Leg Amputated Due to COVID-19

Nick Cordero, the Broadway star, had contracted COVID-19. On Saturday, due to the complications brought by the sickness, his leg had to be amputated. The heartbreaking news was announced by his wife Amanda Kloots, a fitness trainer on her Instagram Story on April 18.

The leg amputation had to be performed since the "Waitress" actor developed thrombosis on his right leg. The blood clot came about as an effect of the COVID-19 infection he was battling. He needed to be taken off from the blood thinner medications since it was taking a toll on his blood pressure. Internal bleeding on his intestines was also observed. Even then, the doctors recommended immediate surgery as blood clotting would persist on his leg.

Kloots had happily announced that the procedure went well, and he was on his way to his room for his rest and recovery.

Cordero, 41 was initially rushed into the ER by his wife on April 1. Previous to that week, the actor has gotten sick since March 20, and was told to have pneumonia. The first test result for the coronavirus came in negative. However, his condition had gotten worse, and Kloots posted that he could have been misdiagnosed. The Canadian star needed to be sedated as his oxygen level went lower than usual and had to be admitted to intensive care immediately. Kloots, a former Broadway dancer and actress, requested prayers on her Instagram post as his physical being "has gone from bad to worse." On a follow-up test, he was found to be positive with the coronavirus.

On a daily basis, Kloots revealed that she sends home videos to her husband as a morning greeting from her and their 10-month old son, Elvis. As the actor is in a medically induced coma, his caregivers will let him "see" it so that he would "feel like he's been with Elvis and I every day", the fitness trainer shared. The former Broadway dancer continuously gave updates on her husband's development on her Instagram.

Last Thursday, she was happy to announce that he had been taken off from the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation machine (ECMO). This meant he could breathe on his own.

Kloots also encouraged friends and fans to participate in a daily sing-a-long 3 pm PST/ 6 pm EST to #wakeupnick. Cordero has previously recorded the single ironically titled "Live Your Life." His wife asked the fans to share his first original song. Kloots has been able to raise $345,342, as of press time, through the GoFundMe platform to help augment his medical expenses. The target is to reach $350,000.
