5 Famous Musicians and Their Kids in Music

Like most professions, a career in music can also run in the family. However, being the child of a music icon must be challenging. The world watches every step of famous musicians and their kids. Everyone waits for the children to follow in their parents' already giant footsteps.

While the comparison is often inevitable, most of the kids pull through and become stars in their own right. Here are some famous musicians and their kids:

Bob Dylan and son Jakob

The first in our list of famous musicians and their kids would be Bob Dylan. He has become a household name in modern music history. He is regarded as "The Voice of a Generation." Aside from his music career, he is also a writer and a visual artist. Bob published eight books on illustrations and paintings.

His son, Jakob Dylan, is the frontman for the rock band The Wallflowers. The folk and American artist already has two Grammys under his name. This younger Dylan wrote hit songs such as "6th Avenue Heartache" and "One Headlight."

Ravi Shankar and Norah Jones

Perhaps the two things closely associated with Ravi Shankar are the sitar and Indian music. The Bengali Indian musician has spread traditional Indian music to the rest of the world with his mastery of the sitar. Among Ravi's most iconic collaborations were with The Beatles, especially George Harrison.

His relationship with American concert producer Sue Jones would bring another legend to the world, singer-songwriter Norah Jones. Starting as a lounge singer, Norah was skyrocketed into fame with his Billboard chart-topping, Grammy Award-winning debut album "Come Away With Me."

Bob Marley and sons Ziggy and Damian

The Jamaican musician Robert "Bob" Nesta Marley transcended to become the global icon for reggae, as well as Jamaican culture and identity. His spirituality and wisdom are evident in his songs, such as his version of "Don't Worry, Be Happy" and "Is This Love."

Bob has nine children, and most of them have become deejays and artists at some point. His eldest son, Ziggy, founded Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers. His group included his other siblings Sharon, Cedella, and Stephen. Together, they released eight studio albums.

Meanwhile, his youngest, Damian Marley, has also pursued reggae but later infused it with other genres. He has four albums and many collaborative works with other artists. His mother, Cindy Breakspeare, was Miss World 1976 and also a jazz musician.

Billy Ray Cyrus and daughters Miley and Noah

Of course, not to miss the list of famous musicians and their kids is Billy Ray Cyrus. He is a modern country music icon. He has released 16 studio albums since 1992. Billy Ray dominated both country and mainstream music scenes with his "Achy Breaky Heart." His debut album "Some Gave All," earned a 9x Multi-Platinum in the US alone and spent a staggering 17-week stay at the top of the Billboard 200.

His daughters would also pursue their respective music careers. Miley Cyrus first earned international fame for her starring role in the Disney show "Hannah Montana." Billy Ray also played the role of her dad in the series. While Miley has had a rough patch in her career, she still proved that she is among this generation's top artists.

Miley's younger sister, Noah Cyrus, also pursued a career in music as a singer and songwriter. Her debut single, "Make Me (Cry)" peaked at No. 46 on the Hot 100, but reached the top spot in the Australian Hitseekers chart. She has then collaborated with other artists Labrinth, Marshmello, and XXXTentaction.
