Lorde to Release New Single, Curate 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1' Soundtrack

At the ripe old age of 17, Lorde has had a massive No. 1 hit with "Royals," won two GRAMMY awards and completely shaken up the pop and alt-rock game. So, where to go from here? To the movies! Today (July 31), it was announced that Lorde will be curating and contributing the lead single for the new movie The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.

According to Consequence of Sound, the new movie's soundtrack will be all Lorde. She'll contribute the main song for the film and also hand pick the rest of the music and artists set to appear on the soundtrack.

The Hunger Games films have a long history with critically acclaimed music and big name artists. The first film's soundtrack, The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond pulled from Katniss Everdeen's Appalachian hometown of District 12, including GRAMMY award winning music from Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars.

Other music from The Hunger Games and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire includes original songs from Coldplay, Arcade Fire, Christina Aguilera, Imagine Dragons and more.

And, of course, Lorde herself is no stranger to The Hunger Games universe. She covered Tears For Fears' "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" for the second film's soundtrack.

An official release date for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 soundtrack has yet to be revealed. However, the film is set to hit theaters on Nov. 21.
