Rob Zombie Crowdfunding His Next Film, Says New Album Is 'Halfway Done'

In an interview with Rolling Stone, heavy metal singer and horror film director Rob Zombie revealed that he would be turning to crowdfunding to finance his next film, 31. For those unfamiliar with crowdfunding, it involves asking fans for donations in exchange for rewards, depending on how much they donate. Among the rewards that Zombie would be giving to his prospective donors are props from his previous films, autographed posters, and lifetime passes to all of Zombie’s future concerts.

Zombie reveals that though he was hesitant to ask fans for money, he was inspired to start a crowdfunding campaign after fans continually asked him about obtaining props from his films. “People have come up to me over the years and asked, ‘How can I get these props?’ ‘How can I come to the set?’” he says, “So I realized a crowdfunding campaign is not a guy on a street corner with a hat asking for money.”

Along with the props and concert passes, donors can also give enough money to see their name in the credits of 31, which Zombie believes is the coolest of all the rewards he’s offering, saying, “If there was a time when someone told me, ‘Your name can be forever in the credits of Star Wars,’ or whatever, I’d be like, ‘F**k yeah.’ That’s pretty rad.”

Zombie says that he has finished writing the script to 31, a Halloween-themed horror movie, and will begin scouting locations next week. In addition to this new film, Zombie also reveals that he’s “more than half done” with his next album, which he hopes to have finished by the end of the year.
