Somegirlnamedanna releases new single “California” [WATCH]

Emerging as one of the year's most buzzed-about breaking artists, somegirlnamedanna shares a new single and music video entitled "california." Listen HERE via LAVA/Republic Records. Watch official music video HERE.

Most importantly, it heralds the arrival of her debut twenty one, twenty two EP to be released July 31.

On "california," somegirlnamedanna opens up to say, "Distance and love combined is such a difficult thing. "california" is about being separated by thousands of miles, and wanting to be with someone, but it just isn't even close to reality. I wrote this from a place of hope, almost a dream state wanting something that doesn't feel realistic."

She continues about the music video, "I wanted the video to really feel like a dream, you get these flashes of someone you want and you have no idea where they are or what they are doing. Are they thinking of you at the same time you are thinking of them? There is a little mystery to all of it."
Making her introduction only a few months ago, somegirlnamedanna has already surpassed over a million streams globally with her releases "hello i am" and "kitchen table".

MTV selected her as the first artist to be featured on its MTV Push: FIRST series, which will focus its global spotlight on a curated selection of exceptional new artists just embarking on the start of their careers. The series will also include custom artist-focused short-form content that will feature the artist across all MTV platforms.

Thus far, she has attracted widespread tastemaker praise. OnesToWatch described "hello i am" as "an introduction we will not be forgetting any time soon." Meanwhile, The Line of Best Fit commented, "With a vocal personality that recalls the early work of Lorde or Imogen Heap, the song is wound round a captivating loop." Idolator proclaimed it, "Short and sweet, the 1:47 minute song is a literal calling card."

Let's make this clear. somegirlnamedanna is not a brand. It is not an image. It is not an alter ego. Instead, it is the story of Anna, "a girl with a name like all of us are." Born and raised in a remote area of Minnesota, her imagination flourished without television or social media. An antique grand piano in the living room called to her as she repeated melodies and jingles from the radio by ear as a young child. While painting in the kitchen, mom played classics by Tracy Chapman, Joni Mitchell, and Tori Amos fueling her daughter's love for music and the arts, in general. At the same time, she developed a knack for poetry and writing short stories at school, combining the two in songwriting eventually. Balancing college and bartending four nights a week, she spent countless hours in the studio writing and recording demos as well as developing her voice. After one listen to these early demos, LAVA Founder Jason Flom personally signed her in 2019. That brings us to her debut twenty one, twenty two EP to be released July 31.
