In the latest Jimmy Kimmel comedy skit, Dua Lipa learns how much of an influence her music has on older folks that are beyond her usual demographic.
She interviewed some seniors online via video chat, but hilariously, they did not recognize her.
The "Don't Start Now" dance-pop singer shared that she wanted to reach an audience that is beyond her current reach. This prompted her to reach out to seniors and do some virtual interviews. She presents herself as someone who is surveying music without revealing her identity. She wears formal clothes and elegant hairstyle, almost unrecognizable from her usual makeup and fashion style.
The segment was called "Who-a Lipa," a clever pun on her name Dua Lipa and the expected "who?" perplexed response from the interviewees. As many probably did not know, Dua Lipa is her real-life name and not a nickname like Cardi B or Lady Gaga.
The model-songwriter opened the interview by first asking about the senior's opinion on pop music. This is so that she can transition later to introducing herself. Naturally, the elderly are not so familiar with the genre. The same response was given when she asked them who Dua Lipa is.
Lipa then proceeded to play her songs for the seniors to listen to. The listeners bopped their heads to the beat and made light dancing movements - swinging from left to right and snapping their fingers.
This suggests that they love her songs. Some wrote the song titles down so they can find it later, and a particular man said, "she might do well on TikTok." "Don't Start Now," "Physical," and a lot of other Lipa's songs are featured in TikTok dances and pranks.
All in all, they loved her music. It looks like Dua Lipa is successful in her mission to reach out to a broader demographic.
