Phil Collins' 1981 debut single "In the Air Tonight" surged to the second spot on iTunes last Tuesday August 11, 2020. It nearly snagged the top spot from Carbi B and Megan Thee Stallion's recent spicy collaboration "WAP."
This is all thanks to a reaction video that went viral. The video details twin Youtubers' first time hearing the "In the Air Tonight" song.
Many fans recommended the instant hit song to Tim and Fred Williams, both 22, who runs the Youtube channel Twinsthenewtrend. Their video titled "FIRST TIME HEARING Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight REACTION" was uploaded last July 28, 2020 and it garnered 5m views, 102k likes, and 14k comments.
One brother could not contain his excitement and asks "What is this about? What is this about?" To which the other brother responded with "Let's see."
The twins also remarked who the music sounds like a boxer or a WWE wrestler would use as their ring entrance anthem while another feels like Collins is staring straight into his soul.
The reaction video transpired with them commenting on the lyrics and bopping their heads to the subtle congo beats.
The real kicker is the iconic drum break near the end of the song. The twins never knew what they got themselves into, not knowing about it.
Once the legendary beats kicked in, the twins lost it - the Williams and the commenters loved the beat drop. One commented that Collins must have felt the listeners are sleeping so the singer-drummer "woke them up."
Aside from first time hearing the song, the twins also mentioned that this is the first time they hear the beat drops three minutes into the song.
The official music video for "In the Air Tonight" was uploaded on Phil Collins' Youtube channel last May 11, 2020. It currently has over 200m views, 1.1m likes, and 51k comments - most likely boosted by the twin's viral reaction video.
