News abound of Fortnite being pulled off the Apple and Google app stores.
This is in line with the game's developer, Epic Games, violating guidelines regarding the tech giants' payment systems. This prompted the developer to file a lawsuit against Apple and Google.
As major news is developing for the respective parties to resolve violations, this is an excellent opportunity to look back at a lighter aspect that made Fortnite famous: the dances.
Fortniteis a game where players can show more of their unique personality through its plenty of dances and emotes. Most of these have references in pop culture. Players can get most of them through the in-game store while others are rare season rewards.
The gamers know the dance moves not only in the game but also in real life. Some use it as exercise or a dance routine then posts them on social media apps, especially Instagram and TikTok. Here are some of the exciting dances in Fortnite.
Floss Dance
This simple dance that involves coordinated hand and hip movement is harder to execute than it initially seems. The dance existed before, but it was Russell Horning who popularized it. It all started when he appeared as a guest dancer for Katy Perry's Saturday Night Live performance. This also earned Horning the "Backpack Kid" nickname. It is also considered rare because it was an exclusive Season 2 award.
Orange Justice
Fortnite ran an event where gamers post a video of themselves dancing using the hashtag #boogietown. The winner will have his or her dance move added to the game. The popular vote seems to be veering towards the dance of a kid in an orange shirt. Much to everyone's surprise, the kid did not win. The orange shirt kid's dance was not even on the list of nominated ones. The fans cried justice for the orange shirt kid. Fortnite listened and added the dance and named it "Orange Justice."
Ride the Pony/Gangnam Style
"Gangnam Style" was one of the viral songs that came out. It was so popular that everyone eventually got tired of it, including Psy, who made it. Fortnite was not going to let a pop culture reference slide, so they included the iconic pony dance into the game.
Tidy/Snoop Dogg's Dance
Many recognize Snoop Dogg's dance move in his song "Drop It Like It's Hot" featuring Pharrell. The move is like a gangster's victory dance. It is simple and does not involve too much movement. Some even say that it is more of a subtle gesture and not a dance. Still, it is a signature dance of triumph and is used in plenty of memes.
Fresh/Carlton's Dance
Carlton Banks dance swinging his arms wildly in the 90's sitcom "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" made its way to the game as well. The dance is most popular with Tom Jones' "It's Not Unusual." Carlton's actor, Alfonso Ribeiro, used this signature move in the dance competition "Dancing with the Stars." However, Ribeiro filed a lawsuit against the game developers for using his dance move without permission but, for some reason, dropped the lawsuit later.
