The Teen Choice Awards 2013 took over Universal City, California, for a night filled with the best that adolescents have to say about music, movies, television and fashion on Sunday, Aug. 11. The night was filled with big moments from twerk-tastic dancing, energy-filled performances. Hosted by "Glee" actor Darren Criss and "Pretty Little Liars" actress Lucy Hale, the night was memorable in big ways.
Here are the five best moments from the Teen Choice Awards 2013.
1. Twerk, Harry, Twerk
The TCAs were capped off by an attempt to get the world record for the most people "twerking" at one time. Though the end result was scattered and mostly marked by host Darren Criss' bright yellow jumpsuit, the lead up to the twerk-athon was the definite hilarious, most viral moment.
After a little prodding from Criss, One Direction member Harry Styles decided to drop it like it's hot and twerk. The moment quickly went viral, prompting .gifs of the three-second booty drop and YouTube remixes.
The hashtag #HarryDroppedThatThunThunThun took over Twitter, with Directioners marveling at Styles' dancing skills and firm British badonk.
2. Adam Devine, Professional Photo Bomber
"Pitch Perfect" actor and Choice Movie Villain winner Adam Devine's job at the 2013 TCAs was to be the awkward creeper in the background of select moments. Devine was first seen as Gabby Douglas won her award for Choice Female Athlete, in a moment that was more confusing than funny, and surfaced memories of Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift at the VMAs.
Soon, it was revealed that Devine's photo bomb behind Douglas was a planned event, and he was the evening's designated photo bomber and was also seen when Nina Dobrov and Simon Helberg introduced Paramore and in other random, hilarious TV moments.
3. Teens LOVE One Direction, "Pitch Perfect" and Miley Cyrus
Speaking of a booty-shakin' Harry Styles and Adam Devine's perfectly times photo bombs, One Direction and "Pitch Perfect" dominated the evening's award count. After kicking things off with a high-energy performance of their new single "Best Song Ever," One Direction gathered up four surfboards for Choice Summer Tour, Choice Group Single ("Live While We're Young"), Choice Love Song ("Little Things") and Choice Music Group.
"Pitch Perfect" also gathered up four surfboards for Choice Movie: Comedy, Choice Movie Actress (Rebel Wilson), Choice Movie Actor (Skylar Astin) and Choice Movie Villain (Adam Devine).
Meanwhile, Smilers came out in force, helping Miley Cyrus win three awards. The "We Can't Stop" single won Choice Summer Song, and Cyrus picked up Choice TV Female Scene Stealer (for her run on "Two And a Half Men") and the Candie's Choice Style Icon.
4. One Direction: The Butt of Rebel Wilson's Joke
"Pitch Perfect" actress and Teen Choice Award winner Rebel Wilson is known for her off color sense of humor. After winning the surfboard for Choice Movie Actress ("Pitch Perfect"), Wilson made a hilarious speech while wearing an appropriate wetsuit.
In the middle of her thank yous, censors cut out several seconds of Wilson's speech, making viewers at home curious about what, exactly, the funny woman said. Turns out, she was poking a little fun at fellow TCA winners One Direction. According to E! Online, Wilson said, "You know what's weird? When I found out there was a band called One Direction, because that's the name I also gave my a**hole."
The one-liner is, indeed, quite funny and indicative of Wilson's humor, but it wasn't necessarily family-friendly enough for the FOX broadcast.
5. Ashton Kutcher's Shockingly Inspirational Speech
Actor Ashton Kutcher took home one of the Teen Choice Awards' highest honors, winning the Ultimate Choice Award. The star, best known for his roles on "That '70s Show" and "Two And a Half Men" gave a touching, inspirational acceptance speech.
Though he did joke that he was simply winning an "old man award" and that his next stop was at the old folks' home, Kutcher gave some life advice to the teen viewers in the audience and at home. "I never had a job that I was better than. I was always just lucky to have a job. Every job I had was a stepping stone to my next job, and I never quit my job before I had my next job," he said.
He also touched on being sexy, what doesn't mean exactly what one would think it does: "The sexiest thing in the world is being really smart and being thoughtful and being generous. Everything else is crap. I promise you."
