As previously reported, Meek was sentenced to 3 to 6 months in jail for violating his probation. A judge sited Meek's posting to his social networks and missing probation appointments.
Rick Ross issued a statement regarding Meek's situation via MTV News. In it, Ross vowed to stand by Meek and referred to him as not only his artist but his family.
"I created MMG years ago, my desire was to create a space where the most talented artists in the world could be nurtured and supported. With that came a commitment. I vowed to support these artist, through the good and the bad. Every individual signed to MMG is not just an artist, they are my family. And with family you ride, or you die. Yesterday, my brother, Meek Mill ran into some unfortunate legal issues. It happens. However, his team, our team, will continue to execute Meek's plan as close to schedule as possible."
Last month, the rapper's early release request was denied.
In the motion filed, Meek's representative argues that his client was wrongfully taken into custody. His lawyer says the rapper had not committed any new offenses and was not given a hearing to state his defense.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, a judge responded that a hearing will not be possible until September.
