Spoon Plays Surprise Show At NYC Hotel Before ‘They Want My Soul’ Release

With their upcoming album They Want My Soul set to be released tomorrow (Aug 5), Spoon took it upon themselves to play a surprise gig at McKittrick Hotel in New York City this past weekend, as reports Brooklyn Vegan.

Taking to the mic, frontman Britt Daniel greeted the crowd, saying, "This is a pretty cool summer, right?" just before kicking off their set.

The band had recently finished playing Chicago's Lollapalooza the day before and still appeared in rather high-spirits ... probably because their newest album – their first in four years – has been getting some rather epic reviews.

Last night's McKittrick gig was one in a series of "surprise" shows they've been putting on. The group has reportedly been sending out "mystery mailers" to various fans inviting them to certain shows.

Check out the below Instagram photo (and video!) from last night's performance below.

And take a peek at the setlist:

Knock Knock Knock
Inside Out
Small Stakes
The Beast and Dragon, Adored
Do You
Don't Make Me a Target
Outlier
Who Makes Your Money
Rent I Pay
Got Nuffin
Encore:
I Turn My Camera On
You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb
Black Like Me

In case you missed the McKittrick gig (which you probably did unless you got the invite) the band will be back in New York next month when they take to the stage as part of the Central Park Summerstage on September 10. The stop will be one of the many in order to promote They Want My Soul –– out tomorrow!
