Not more than a month after "Planet Her" bagged eight Grammy Award nominations last November, Doja Cat teases how her next album would sound.
Treating her fans and followers for a holiday surprise, the "Woman" Hitmaker live-streamed on Instagram on Christmas Eve.
The 26-year-old pop star has announced that she plans to release a double album, with one side devoted solely to hip-hop music and the other to pop music.
The first side of the album would comprise seven songs that with her signature 'pop-rap' style, while the second side solely dedicated to twelve hip-hop tracks.
As to who would produce the music, Doja hopes to onboard Vine superstar-turned-music producer Jay Versace and producer-for-the stars 9th Wonder for all the songs on her hip-hop side of the album.
Versace and Wonder seems to be in disbelief as they reacted on the popstar's "double" revalation.
The Success of Planet Her
Doja Cat's third album, 'Planet Her', dropped earlier this June. Garnering generally positive reviews from music critics, most of whom praised Doja Cat's musical versatility and her vocal deliveries.
Planet Her managed to get a WHOOPING eight Grammy Nods, including Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. Her hit song "Kiss Me More" is also nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, and "Need to Know" is nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
XXL Magazine also reported that Doja has surpassed OVO Rapper Drake as the rapper with Most Monthly Spotify Listerners by 300,000.
Career burnout and Dr. Luke Controversy
Amid the success of her third album, Doja expressed in another Instagram Live how she felt "pressured" as she hasn't been able to "just have fun" making music in "maybe five years".
Despite the burnout, Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, more widely known as Doja Cat, continues to reap the success of her music career.
She recently expressed her thoughts on how she wouldn't want to work with the controversial Dr. Luke anymore. Saying that the latter has taken credit for things he has no involvement in.
Dr. Luke is credited on "Say So", one of Doja's most successful songs.
Months before his Dr. Luke comment, Doja has been open to her fans that she's trying to be "really careful" on who she collaborates with in the future.
Doja says she wants to be "more choosy" about what she's doing. She feels like many of the collaboration songs recently released are just artists "getting on each other's songs for the sake of having them on each other's songs".
