After the success of her chart-topping collaboration with Cardi B on "Wild Side", Normani is on her way to releasing her debut album.
During her interview at the Ellen DeGeneres show with Guest host Ciara, the 25-year old singer confirms that her album is "almost done".
Normani Kordei Hamilton, called by her stage name Normani, expressed her thoughts about how people "underestimates" the artist's effort when releasing new music.
The Fifth Harmony member, now solo artist, said that she had "a lot to figure out" by herself, coming from a girl group. She said that there were a lot of "fears" that she had to deal with "head-on".
Normani also brushed on how confidence plays a significant role in any release, saying that she had to reveal "the deepest part" of herself when dropping new music.
Ciara also shared how "amazing" Normani is after introducing her to her VMA performance last 2019. Grabbing the VMA for Best R&B Video the same night, Normani shared back how Ciara shaped her artistry, calling the Grammy Winner somebody that she has "looked up to forever".
The shift to Solo from a Group
The rising artist admitted that she always felt "safe" being in a girl group. She also recounted a conversation with her mother, who is baffled why she "badly wants" to be in a girl group.
The Teen Choice Awardee straightforwardly revealed later on that it was because she wanted to "hide" among a group. As to why she wanted to "hide" her greatness, Normani had not explained why.
Normani took a leap in her solo career after the band took an "indefinite hiatus" to pursue their respective solo careers. In an interview with Women's Health after her exit, she said that being in Fifth Harmony "took toll" on her confidence.
Being the only African American in the group, she has dealt with racist online trolls and bashers that "alters the perception you have of yourself,".
Now successful on her own solo career with hits "Motivation" and "Wild Side", Normani said before that for a long time, she "didn't believe in herself" that she felt like wasn't given the opportunity.
Despite the fact that Normani has yet to announce a release date for her debut solo album, she hinted earlier this month that it will arrive in the summer of 2022, according to Billboard.
