Farmer Derek Klingenberg Calls His Cows Home with Lorde's 'Royals' Trombone Cover

This week's newest viral video involves Lorde. And cows.

Unfortunately the New Zealand pop star herself doesn't make an appearance but her hit "Royals" does. It turns out that humans aren't the only species totally hooked on the track. A YouTube video has emerged featuring Farmer Derek Klingenberg ("farmer" is part of his moniker) calling his cattle home with a simple trombone cover of Lorde's biggest hit.

The video opens with Klingenberg sitting in a fold-out chair before he starts playing the recognizable line. A black spot appears on the horizon as he gets further into the refrain and soon more and more cows are coming over the hillside. The video fast forwards a bit and soon there is a wall of cows standing maybe 15 feet from the farmer. The only thing we could ask for is the cows to moo in unison in response to the call "we will never be royals."

This isn't Klingenberg's first rodeo. The farmer has a whole YouTube page dedicated to his agricultural tributes to popular music. Other videos featured on his page include Ylvis parody "What Does The Farmer Say?," a "Happy" cover and a "Thrift Shop" parody titled "Ranching Awesome." None of those quite live up to his cattle call as he plays trombone a lot more in tune than he sings. Sorry man.

Do the cows necessarily recognize the particular tune "Royals"? Probably not, no. They would probably respond to "Tennis Court" and "Glory and Gore" just the same. "Team" would make for the best vocal cover, you know, if Klingenberg were looking for a theme. After all, they're all in each other's herd.
