The Omicron Variant surge has a new casualty on its long list of now-canceled tours and performances in the United States.

According to the band, the Strokes will no longer perform at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on New Year's Eve in 2021.

In an Instagram post from their official account, the group explained that they were looking forward to performing last New Year Eve in Brooklyn, New York. However, the anticipated performance was rescheduled due to the area's spike of Omicron variant-related cases.

The Grammy-winning band was initially scheduled to have their performance at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn last New Year Eve, alongside IDLES and Hinds.

The Strokes will perform at the same venue in Spring 2022, with Mac DeMarco replacing IDLES on the bill this time.

On the other hand, all tickets will be honored for the rescheduled dates, and more specific guidelines on refunding will be posted once the new performance date is announced.

COVID-19 scraps Rock bands tours

In December, the state of New York recorded the highest single-day COVID case counts in the country, with 21,027 new cases - breaking the previous record of 20,021 instances set on January 14, 2021, in the state.

Within a week, the number of positive cases had grown by a whopping 154 percent as well.

Several artists, including The Charlatans, Supergrass, Sam Fender, Paul Weller, Coldplay, and LCD Soundsystem, have canceled gigs in recent weeks owing to COVID infections, while The Streets have canceled their whole tour this 2022.

Meanwhile, The Strokes is now added to the lineup for Best Kept Secret, which will occur this year. Artists like Alt-J, Leon Bridges, Mura Musa, Nick Cave & The Bad Seedsand have already been confirmed to perform at the festival's return edition in the Netherlands.

The Strokes' other commitments

The Strokes' performance at Barclays Center would have been their first New Year's Eve performance in over two years.

Their sixth studio album, The New Abnormal, was released last year and was their first in seven years. The band sealed their first-ever Grammy victory in the album for that year's Best Rock Album.

On the band's first visit to the United Kingdom next summer, they will head the Lytham Festival in Lancashire and perform at TRNSMT 2022. The band is also set to perform at the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona and the Tempelhof Sounds festival in Berlin.

In addition, the trio will serve as the opening act for Red Hot Chili Peppers on specific North American dates of their global tour in 2022.
