Pete Rock is ready to launch a lawsuit against Nas for unpaid royalties related to his contribution to the album "Illmatic".

According to Pete and his team, 'The World is Yours,' a song from the famous album has a composition and production credit to the great producer, but he has not gotten any money from it to yet.

Pete contributed vocals to the track as well. They anticipate that the entire income from the Gold-certified single will be in the millions of dollars by this time.

Details on the suit

Although Pete's legal team claims that they have repeatedly asked that Nas follow the alleged agreement, they claim that there has been no reaction from the other side.

Jay-Z, Eminem, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, and the late Mac Miller have all used the song as a sample in their music.

Rock and his legal team are ready to bring a lawsuit against Nas later this month as a result of this incident.

The Mount Vernon native rapper said in an interview with Page Six that Nas and it's camp have "stonewalled" him since 1994. He mentioned that his New Year's resolution is to be paid for his "hard work" on Nas' "Illmatic".

Not only is "The Worlds Is Yours" the sole track to achieve gold status on Illmatic, but he also sings the hook for the song, which is a testament to the legendary producer.

Among the many samples used in the song, which includes the Ahmad Jamal Trio's "I Love Music," Rock is also credited as a writer.

The current success of "Illmatic" and Nas

It was also reported recently that Nas will be taking "Illmatic" in another exclusive orchestral run, now with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, on May 2022.

Nas also collaborated with the National Symphony Orchestra last 2014 for an orchestral run-through of the same commercially successful album.

Aside from the upcoming orchestral exclusive concert at the Los Angeles Walt Disney Concert Hall in Spring 2022, the hip-hop icon will also be busy touring on this year's Smokin Grooves Festival in Los Angeles, California and the Festival of Beer in Toronto, Canada, on July 2022.

Just last Christmas Eve, Nas also dropped his 14th album "Magic" featuring collaborations with DJ Premier and A$AP Rocky. The album involved Grammy Award-Winning music producer Hit-Boy, with who he also had collaborations with since 2020 from "King's Disease", and "Kings Disease II.

Nas has not given any comments or actions on the suit attempted to be filed against him.
