Looks like The Weeknd stayed true to his record.
After releasing their separate albums, Dawn FM and DS4EVER, The Weeknd, and Gunna have been on hiatus for an entire week now.
There were two artists in a tight race for the No. 1 place on the Billboard 200, and The Weeknd emerged victoriously, but only by a bit of margin.
Sales and chart positions
The Weeknd's fifth studio album opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 after selling 154,000 album-equivalent units. In comparison, Gunna's third studio album debuted at No. 2 on the chart after selling 152,000 album-equivalent units.
Gunna was barely 2,000 units short of eclipsing the R&B megastar in sales.
After Hours, The Weeknd's most recent album, sold 444,000 album-equivalent units, with 275,000 of those being pure album sales.
Dawn FM would almost certainly have achieved more success if Billboard had not outlawed physical CDs sold in conjunction with merchandising packages.
After selling 111,000 equivalent copies in its first week, Gunna's second studio album Wunna (released in 2020) debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming the artist's best-ever start.
The Weeknd's 'Dawn FM'
Despite the fact that Dawn FM earned an estimated 154,000 total album-equivalent earned units, the figures are in accordance with the sales forecasts previously provided by Hits Daily Double.
The Weeknd clarified his decision not to release physical copies of Dawn FM on January 6 via Twitter, stating that it was about the overall experience of listening to the album.
As fans speculated about the reasoning behind his decision not to release physical copies of Dawn FM, many speculated that it was due to an emphasis on streaming numbers.
The fact that he had a large number of sales did not bother him.
"This doesn't matter to me," Abel explained in a tweet. "What matters is getting to experience the album together with the fans during these times".
Gunna's 'DS4Ever'
After fans wondered why Drake's collab with Gunna is nowhere to be found, Champagne Papi and Gunna finally released their "P Power" collab last week.
Gunna has just released a video for "P Power" on YouTube. On Spotify, it is still missing from the original album labeled "DS4Ever", but it can be found on an entirely other album titled "Drip Season 4Ever".
A total of 19 tracks are included on the first installment of 'DS4Ever,' with contributions from 21 Savage (on 'Thought I Was Playing'), Kodak Black ('How You Did That'), Lil Baby ('25k Jacket'), and Roddy Ricch ('Too Easy Remix').
