DumbleAmps founder Alexander Dumble passes away.

Howard Alexander Dumble has established himself as a legend in the guitar community as a result of his exquisitely designed and handcrafted amplifiers.

Rock superstars such as John Mayer and Eric Johnson have are some of the many musicians in the industry who have used his handcrafted guitar amplifiers.

The news of Howard Dumble's death was announced online on January 18, 2022, and fans and friends have expressed their condolences on social media platforms.

At the time of writing, the cause of his death has not yet been disclosed to the public.

In an Instagram post of DumbleAmps, Dumble's amplifier line, they announced the guitar icon's death as they noted that his work "brought joy and inspiration to countless musicians and engineers".

Grammy-winner Christopher Cross expressed his condolences in the comments: "Rest In Peace, Howard."

While guitarist Brian Ray commented: "I'm so so sorry to hear this news. We went back together to the late '70s. He was a sweet, brilliant man, and he'll be missed by so many. Thanks so much, Howard!"

Dumble was one of the most well-known amplifier builders in the world of guitar amplification, having created customized amplifiers for musicians such as Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robben Ford, John Mayer, and many more.

DumbleAmps' origins

Howard Dumble was best known as a designer and manufacturer of guitar amplifiers, which he did for a living.

Dumble was the proud designer of Dumble Amps in Los Angeles.

Overdrive Special and Steel String Singer are two of his most well-known amp designs, which have gone on to become some of the most iconic and well-known amplifiers in the history of the industry.

Having begun building amplifiers in the 1960s, he had collaborated with musicians such as Jackson Browne and Lowell George by the 1970s.

In addition to building amplifiers, Dumble was a phenomenal guitarist who honed his skills in the recording studio.

This enabled him to truly grasp the requirements of his customers, fine-tuning each amplifier for each unique guitarist repeatedly.

Tributes to Dumble

Since his passing, messages of condolences continued to pour out for Dumble on social media. Grammy-nominated Blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa wished Alexander peace, calling the icon "genius and a one of a kind".

Seattle's Fretboard Journal echoed the same sentiment that Dumble was, in fact, unique as he had made the world of music "interesting" and the world of tone "mysterious".

In a lengthy Instagram caption, renowned Blues musician Kenny Wayne's Sheperd was one with everyone's notion that Dumble was a "genius" in the field as the icon was a "deep well of technical knowledge" for music.
