Imagine going home from therapy and finding out your dad has an unreleased bop song hidden in his playlist.

Well, as wild as it may sound, this teenage TikToker had the exact experience he shared on the social media giant recently.

Zach Smith, @zach.montana on TikTok, came home from his therapy when he inadvertently played a track that happened to be created by his father 43 years ago.

Smith, a budding musician himself, shared the unexpected encounter on TikTok a day after. Screaming in excitement and blown away with how the music was good, Zach asked his followers to blow the video up to convince his father to release the music officially.

Journey to release

As he chronicled the progression of his father's music release, the original audio spread like wildfire on TikTok, spliced and dueted onto various clips befitting to the tune. Amassing more likes and traction outside TikTok, Zach revealed in a TikTok video that Marvel Entertainment's Music Supervisor Dave Jordan has reached out to him and will have the music sent to "Guardian's of The Galaxy" and "Suicide Squad II" director James Gunn.

It was not long until the song, titled 'Surrender To Me,' had been played thousands of times and received praise from celebrities such as Meghan Trainor and Herman Li.

Since being posted on TikTok, it has earned more than three million plays and almost 10,000 pre-saves. The music has been officially released under the moniker FireCityFunk, which stands for Fire City Funk.

In an interview, Zach revealed that he had received texts from people he did not know. Up to date, Zach claims to be "astonished" on how the revelation amassed the recognition of the track he thought it deserved.

Father reveal?

Since the video was posted, Zach kept those who were following their journey at their toes by not revealing his father yet to the public. He only shows them photos of him during the 70s. But now, he has finally shown his dad to the world with a fresh TikTok video.

@zach.montana HERE HE IS. SURRENDER TO ME OUT NOW. #dadsong #dadreveal #disco #funk #marvel ♬ original sound - Zach

In a closed-door zoom interview with The Guardian, it was revealed that the father in question is William Curly Smith. He has toured, recorded, and has been as a session player with artists including Wille Nelson and Berlinda Carlisle.

"It's just something that's been sitting on the shelf for 43 years," Curly told The Guardian, stating that Zach only "just discovered it in the car, did a TikTok thing on it, and the rest is history."

Curly admitted that what happened is "a bit of a happy accident," and it was a "wonderful" full circle moment for him.
