Will the Family Madrigal find its way to Broadway soon? Since the hit-animated musical takes over social media by storm, the possibility of turning it into a full-blown musical production seems to be in talks already.
Encanto hitmaker addresses rumors and hopes of fans on turning the Golden Globe-winning musical into another Lin Manuel Miranda masterpiece.
Encanto: The Musical?
Speaking to E! News recently, Lin Manuel Miranda reveals his plans on whether he sees "Encanto" turned into a full-blown Broadway musical.
"I think it weirdly lends itself well," Miranda shared. "They don't always, you know? Like, I can't picture a Moana Broadway musical. I don't know how you'd do the ocean."
The PEGT winner compares one of his successful Disney works, "Moana," to his cultural phenomenon, "Encanto."
However, the Madrigal Family already has its final production number laid out in the mind of the Hamilton creator.
Lin revealed that the movie's last song, "All of You," was seven minutes long on his first draft.
"It was so late in production that they were like, 'Lin, we won't make the movie in time. You actually have to cut this down.' So I've got the Broadway finale like in the chamber," he continued.
Although he "love" to see "Encanto" onstage, the plan seems to be a long shot for now.
The "In The Heights" creator is not ruling out, however, a television series or a sequel film as he mentioned that he would "love to continue again" as "there's so many stories in that house."
"Encanto", in other news, is on its way to bagging its first Oscar Award.
The success of Encanto
"Encanto" also received a nod for Best Animated Feature Film at this year's Oscars, the same award it received from Golden Globes recently.
On the other hand, "Dos Oroguitas," created by Lin Manuel Miranda, and sung in Colombian by Sebastian Yatra, bagged an Oscar Nomination for Best Original Song on the 2022 Academy Awards.
The "Dos Origuitas" nominations mark Lin's second Academy Award nomination after getting the same nod on the same category for his 2016 hit "How Far I'll Go" from "Moana."
Should Lin Manuel Miranda bring home the Oscar, he would achieve PEGOT status, an elite classification of artists who have received five major awards in the entertainment industry (Pulitzer, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony).
Encanto's fan-favorite group number, the viral "We Do not Talk About Bruno," is currently at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the second week in a row and has recently ascended to the top of the Billboard Global 200 chart.
The film's soundtrack has spent four weeks and counting at the top of the Billboard 200 chart.
