Since their 2020 Grammy Nomination for Best New Artist, Tank and The Bangas is returning to the music scene with their upcoming new single.
Fresh from their last release of "Big" in 2021 with bounce music pioneer Big Freedia, Tank and The Bangas released "Black Folk," a sultry anthem declaring the band's adoration and love for black people and the things they do.
In an Instagram post with Tank and The Bangas frontwoman Tarriona "Tank" Ball, the group's new song is an "ode to black people."
"All the beautiful things about us and the things that we like to cover up with pain, laughter, food, and music, the family secrets, all of it. The way we look at other black people that have so-called "made it," like Cicely Tyson and Serena Williams and Tyler Perry," Tank captioned with a snippet of the video.
Tank and The Bangas celebrate Blackness in all of its forms throughout the song, stressing how it emerges as family gatherings in the park, uprisings, and something evocative of another world.
"Black Folk" referenced prominent African-American figures like Martin Luther King, Cicily Tyson, Serena Williams, and Oprah, among many others throughout the video.
The new single is Tank and The Banga's new single for their upcoming third album, "Red Balloon," to which the track has mainly expressed the idea of having one's guard up instead of welcoming anyone despite unclear intentions.
New album on spring
"No ID," released in 2021 with "Big" featuring Big Freedia, are all part of the upcoming Tank and The Banga's third studio album "Red Balloon."
"Black Folk" and "No ID" are said to have summed up the vibe and concept of "Red Balloon."
"This has been one of the best attempts thus far at capturing what happens when we're all playing at the same time," the group explained.
Tank and The Bangas told uDiscover Music that Red Balloon aims at its listeners' hearts and neck, hoping the idea of love the music pushes transcends.
"Red Balloon" will feature collaborations with Lalah Hathaway, Big Freedia, Trombone Shorty, Jacob Collier, Jamison Ross, The Hamiltones, Wayne Brady, and Georgia Anne Muldrow.
The New Orleans-formed band will release "Red Balloon" on May 13, 2022, and fans can pre-order the album here.
