The Weeknd kickstarted the year with his much-anticipated album "Dawn FM."
The fifth studio album featured collaborations with Tyler The Creator, Lil Wayne, narrations from Jim Carrey, and even spoken word poetry from Josh Sadie and music legend Quincy Jones.
The 16-track album was almost a love child of various music producers as it was executively produced by The Weeknd, hitmaker Max Martin, Oneohtrix Point Never, Oscar Holter, Calvin Harris, and European supergroup Swedish House Mafia.
"Dawn FM" debuted and peaked at the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 charts, sitting behind Gunna's "DS4EVER," who he has gone head to head for the No. 1 spot.
The album, however, debuted at No. 1 in ten countries, including Australia, Ireland, Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
Abel Tesfaye, more commonly known as The Weeknd, partnered with Amazon Music in promoting Dawn FM on its release day.
The Weeknd served as a disc jockey and played his album for the first time live to an audience.
Now, The Weeknd and Amazon will take fans on a different level with their new television event for Amazon Prime members.
The Dawn FM Experience
Along with Amazon Prime, The Weeknd will hold "The Dawn FM Experience," an immersive music special of "Dawn FM" on February 26.
Variety reports that the special "expands The Weeknd's latest album." Transforming "Dawn FM" into a mesmerizing visual, the collaboration will create "a theatrical performance event that will "envelope audiences in its unnerving and moody world."
The special, however, will only be available to Amazon Prime members. Abel welcomes the next phase of Dawn FM, saying he is "ecstatic" to partner with the technology, e-commerce, and media streaming giant to premiere "the most elaborate live TV special" he has ever done.
As per Tesfaye, The Dawn FM Experience is a "purgatory otherworld where live performance, theater, and performance art collide for a night out at the club."
Amazon Studios Head Jennifer Salke highlighted that Dawn FM is The Weeknd's "masterful display of artitic vision and creative genius."
Proud to work with Abel and XO Records, Amazon is thrilled to share the "stunning, brilliant, and immersive visual experience" with its global customers.
"With 'The Weeknd x The Dawn FM Experience,' Prime Video and Amazon Music continue to be destinations where artists can present their most ambitious projects without limits or bounds," Salke explains.
