Nick Cave joined the slew of musicians who canceled their scheduled tours in Russia and Ukraine.
Amid the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Cave & The Bad Seeds confirmed the postponement of their scheduled summer tours. The singer also left a heartfelt and powerful message to let their fans in Ukraine know they are not alone.
"Our thoughts and love go to the brave people of Ukraine, their heroic leader, and all those suffering from this senseless war. Ukraine, we stand with you, and with all those in Russia who oppose this brutal act. And we pray that this madness is brought to a close soon," Cave wrote in a statement.
This halted the previously announced June show in Moscow and August tour in Ukraine.
Despite canceling its Russia and Ukraine schedules, Cave and his backing group confirmed they would push through in other countries, including Slovakia and Poland.
While most fans thanked him for his message to the public, some called him out due to his previous statement concerning the cultural boycott of Israel.
What Happened to Nick Cave?
In 2018, Cave made a buzz when he shared his stand regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict. At that time, he called the cultural boycott of Israel "cowardly and shameful."
"I do not support the current government in Israel, yet do not accept that my decision to play in the country is any kind of tacit support for that government's policies," Cave wrote.
He then defended his decision to continue his two shows in Tel Aviv despite the existence of "Artists for Palestine" letter. Instead of joining notable artists in their cause, he rebutted the letter and said he has a fundamental difference of opinion.
Cave condemned the Israeli government's actions toward Palestinians, though, and said that his decision to perform in Israel did not mean he supported the government's policies.
In other related news, more musicians and celebrities also halted their tours in both countries, especially in Russia. Iggy Pop, Green Day, Oxxxymiron, HEALTH, and Franz Ferdinand canceled their shows in Russia. The Killers also halted their highly-anticipated Moscow's Park Live Festival.
Even former One Direction member Louis Tomlinson expressed his desire to safeguard his fans' safety. As a result, he needed to cancel his gigs amid the "needless" war.
