Indie Rock Band Freelance Whales' multi-instrumentalist, Chuck Criss, passed away at 36-years old.

The Freelance Whales' bandmember was former Glee actor Darren Criss' brother.

Darren, who seemed to be very close with Chuck, took to Instagram to announce his brother's passing.

As per Darren, Chuck was his "instant, ready-made bestfriend" right out of their mother's womb.

Describing his brother's loss as a "colossal shock" to him and his family, Darren recalls how he had a hard time wrapping his head on Chuck's passing which he suspected he would be 'attempting to do for the rest of [his] life.'

Darren also emphasized how his brother loved his family, including his long-term romantic relationship and children.

Chuck has the 'youngest from his girlfriend, as well as his two older children from his past marriage.'

Darren also revealed that the last several years for Chuck were "increasingly difficult" as he battled to find "stability" at an unfortunate patch of his life.

As per his brother, Chuck had a "severe depression" welling in him before passing away.

"As we got older, music became one of our greatest bonds. As an artist, he possessed a raw, inimitable talent that never ceased to inspire me," Darren continued.

The two formed the music duo "Computer Games" in 2017 to release their first EP "Lost Boys Life."

The 4-track EP includes their lead single "Lost Boys Life," "We Like It," "Every Single Night," and "Lost Boys Life - Memo."

Aside from Chuck's stint at "Computer Games," he was also part of the rock band "Freelance Whales."

Chuck in Freelance Whales

Formed in 2008, Freelance Whales was an American Indie rock band based in Queens, New York.

The band, which became inactive in 2014, was composed of Chuck Criss, frontman Judah Jadone, Kevin Read, and Jacob Hyman.

Freelance Whales only had released two studio albums during their time: their debut album "Weathervanes," released in 2010, and their sophomore album "Diluvia," which was released two years later.

Most of Freelance Whales' songs were used on various television shows at the time.

Appearing from "Chuck," "One Tree Hill," "Skin," and even on "Greys Anatomy," their limited yet boasting repertoire also made it to the advertising world as it was used by various brands like "Chevrolet," and "Starbucks."
