Billy Joel will be the subject of the upcoming biopic, "Piano Man," but the musician has an issue about it.
After decades of Joel's career, the inspiring musician's life will be highlighted in the biopic titled "Piano Man." Variety reported on Thursday that the flick is currently underway at Michael Jai White's Jaigantic Studios.
Billboard, meanwhile, quoted that the biopic will tell the story about the early days of Joel's career - from the moment Irwin Mazur discovered him to his notable performance in 1972 that wowed Clive Davis.
Artie Ripp's son, Adam Ripp, will write and direct the flick. Mayne Berke and Donovan de Boer will join Mazur and Ripp as the executive producers.
While everything seems to be all set already, "Piano Man" has one problem - Joel did not approve it in any way.
Rolling Stone revealed that the "She's Always a Woman" hitmaker is not involved with the biopic in the project. Thus, he gives no rights in his music, name/likeness, or life story. With that, it remains unknown what music the biopic will use.
However, the flick - through Jaigantic Studios - has since acquired Mazur's life rights. The music manager previously became Joel's representative from 1970 to 1972. His father also owned the Long Island Club, where Joel and The Hassles launched their career in 1966.
"These are the real-life events I witnessed first-hand that shaped Billy from a keyboard player in the local Long Island band, the Hassles, into the iconic musician, singer-songwriter, and entertainer who thrills audiences around the world, today," Mazur said.
Mazur added that the musician had been part of his life since the beginning of his career. He also expressed how unfolding Joel's life story of how he became the Piano Man has been one of his dreams as a filmmaker.
Billy Joel Focuses on More Important Things
Joel nor his representative has revealed the real reason why Joel did not want to be involved in the biopic. But the musician seemingly wants to focus on his career instead as he will be busy in the next few months.
For what it's worth, he has across the country. He will perform next at the Campus World Stadium in Orlando on Saturday.
Joel is also set to visit the Madison Square Garden six times between March 24 to August 24.
The Piano Man successfully released 13 studio albums throughout his career, but he has not dropped anything since 2001's "Fantasies & Delusions."
