While others sing in their bedrooms using a brush or a water bottle, TikTok star Abigail Brooks used a broom to get her golden ticket in American Idol.
Colorado-born Abigail Brooks' audition piece surely swept American Idol judges away, especially with her unique back story and a rather unusual thing to sing to.
Brooks revealed that while coffee shop customers are out, she sings using the same broom she sweeps the floor with.
"I sing into a broom because I always like to have the effect that I'm singing for a crowd and that it's a big deal. It also gave me a sense of comfort," Brooks elaborated.
The 21-year old day barista wowed Gershwin Awardee Lionel Richie on her stunning rendition of "Vincent" by Don McLean.
Confessing to being an "old soul," the TikTok star rocked a bucket hat with denim overalls and gushed how Barbra Streisand is her hero because of her vocal style.
Brooks received flattering comments from the three judges.
Country music legend Luke Bryans boosted Brooks' confidence calling her "a great singer of that style of music" because of her "very interesting" performance.
Described as "one in a hundred," Katy Perry recalled how she got chills at the start of Brooks' performance as she hit notes "naturally."
On the other side, Lionel Richie compared her recent performance to how his good friend, Brooks' idol, Barbra Streisand, performs, noting her similarities and idol.
"I know Barbra very well, and she is very playful. Yes, she is really playful, but when she opens her mouth and walks out on that stage, she turns out to be excatly what you are trying to be, which is a phenomenon. You've got some qualities that only belong to you, and that's the part I am in love with," Lionel pointed out.
Getting a "Yes" from Luke Bryans, a resounding one from Lionel Richie, who cannot wait to tell Barbra about her performance, Brooks earned her golden ticket, thanks to Katy Perry, who gave her final yes.
"Clean up the competition," as Perry instructed her to do, Abigail Brooks earned her golden ticket to Hollywood for the next rounds of the competition.
