Stepmom to the three children of a former spouse, Grammy winner Mary J. Blige, has opened out about her decision not to start a family and why she hasn't done so. She does not have regrets though.
As a result of her recent appearances at the Super Bowl Halftime Show and Jazz in the Gardens Music Festival, Mary J. Blige has little free time on her hands.
One of the reasons the Grammy winner hasn't planned to conceive a family any time soon is her rigorous schedule and lack of free time. She said she knew it would not be fair to the child to have a mom who cannot spare some time.
"I like my freedom to go and move and do what I want to do," she told E! Daily Pop. She got more honest and said she just does not want to be tending to someone all the time. Asked if she'll eventually regret her decision, she said she is not there yet. She also said it's highly unlikely she'll change her mind about this.
It's not as if she is living life alone or without kids. Blige said she has nieces and nephews. She also saw how people with kids scramble for babysitters all the time just to function and she does not want to go through that.
Mary was formerly a stepmom to her ex-husband Kendu Isaacs' three children, despite the fact that she is currently not interested in becoming a mother. Thirteen years later, the couple had divorced.
In her current album, "Good Morning, Gorgeous," the hip hop queen spoke up about the breakup. She also shared some tidbits about the whole experience of breaking up after a long relationship to the New York Times magazine back in early March.
She said she decided to make it her "assignment" to make the whole ordeal a way for her to reach out to those who can be placed in the same situation.
"I got a divorce, you know: OK, Mary, how'd you get through this? Because the world saw you go through all this," she explained. "It's an assignment for me to do that. It might not be everybody else's assignment. But there are a lot of women who love me and respect me and follow me, and want to know - not the details, but how to get to the other side."
She added, "I don't think people care about the details too much. They just care about the part that they can relate to directly with you. " Me too, girl, me too." They don't even care about how you got on that floor. They just know that you were down there - with them. I just give them enough to say, "Me, too. I'm hurting too.'"

One of her songs "Rent Money" is actually inspired by her Martin "Kendu" Isaacs divorce. She revealed a while back that when the divorce happened, she was left virtually broke. She said to give up all this "alimony" and she had to work harder to earn that money back.
Multi-Oscar nominee admits she couldn't afford to rent a place since her funds were so limited.
In 2017, a court ordered Mary J. Blige to pay her ex-husband $30,000 a month in alimony. Initially, his attorneys even asked for four times as much money to assist him maintain his standard of living.
