Charlotte's own folk-rockers The Avett Brothers are once again partnering with the historic soft drink Cheerwine in order to host the third annual Legendary Giveback – an event that raises funds for Lowcountry Food Bank, which aims to end hunger on South Carolina's coastal region, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and Kids First of the Carolinas.
While the event has yet to earn a specific date and location, those will be announced sometime in September. The event, occurring later in 2014, will culminate in a live concert featuring the band.
In the past two years, more than $100,000 has been raised at the events.
"We're excited to be part of the Legendary Giveback 3 and partner again with Cheerwine to encourage thousands more people to give back to their communities," states the band's lead singer, Scott Avett. "This has become one of our favorite events of the year, a chance to get together and say thank you to thousands of people who give selflessly to improve the lives of others."
From now through Nov. 1, people all across the country who purchase a specially marked two-liter bottle or a 12-pack of Cheerwine soda will have the chance to win a prize, including swag from both the soft drink company and the band.
Winners will be invited to a viewing party of the event's concert, which will include food, drinks (Cheerwine, of course), and autographed merchandise from the "I and Love and You" singers.
Cheerwine, too, appears thrilled at the partnership. Tom Barbitta, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Cheerwine stated, "What puts this band in the 'great' category is what they do when no one is watching. It's an honor to present Legendary Giveback 3, turning on more people to the band's music and hopefully many more to the idea of community service and charitable giving."
