"I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerizing story," Taylor concluded. "You'll hear it fully soon, but for now check out the @crawdadsmovie trailer for a clip!"

Delia was beyond happy to have Taylor Swift be part of the movie, and she let this happiness and gratitude known in a letter. She shared her handwritten note to the singer on her Instagram page the following day, on March 24, 2022.

"Dear Taylor, thank you for the stirring yet sensitive theme song you wrote and sang for the Crawdads movie. I cannot imagine a more perfect tribute to Kya's story than your voice drifting forever through the marsh," she wrote.

Fan or no fan of the book, Swifties are ecstatic to hear new music from her after the November reissue of her album Red.

However, despite its critical praise, "Where the Crawdads Sing" has been surrounded by controversy due to revelations regarding Delia. For those who know about the contorversy, Swift's contribution to the movie is questionable.

Almost a decade before the book came out, the New Yorker published "The Hunted" by Jeffrey Goldberg, detailing Delia's experience in Africa with her then-husband Mark and son Christopher.

Did American conservationists in Africa go too far? as it investigates the family's role in the death of an unnamed man suspected of being a poacher.

In reality, Delia and Mark are wanted in Zambia for interrogation in connection with the 1995 murder.

After seeing them on "The Tonight Show," the network approached them to film a Turning Point piece about elephant poaching called "Deadly Game: The Mark and Delia Owens Story."

In one chilling scenario, the production group joins a patrol at the Owenses' conservation, when a rifle is shot at a returning trespasser. It is unclear who fired the shot, and three more shots are heard offscreen as the victim dies.

According to Delia's husband, it is just the reality of the situation. It's "messy" he said. Many think he was being dismissive of the death. Delia echoed the answer.

Sources told Jeffrey Goldberg for the New Yorker that Delia's stepson Christopher fired at least one of the rounds. Mark has also been accused of trying to cover up the crime by dumping the body into a lake. Mark has never addressed these claims.

Mark was also accused of sending scouts into nearby communities to harass and intimidate inhabitants while seeking for elephant ivory. Mark allegedly informs a safari leader that he has killed two poachers and they are "just getting warmed up" in a letter that Mark and Delia deny exists.

Zambian officials sought to interview the Owenses after ABC reported the murder. They had recently returned from a trip to America and were reportedly advised not to return to Africa until the issue was handled.
