R. Kelly is enraged, and he is publicly criticizing his former attorneys for not being on his side right before the trial.
The "I Believe I Can Fly" singer slammed his former attorneys for putting his sex trafficking case before a jury. He stated that they did not dismiss jurors who had viewed his docuseries "Surviving R. Kelly."
The series delves into charges of child sex abuse leveled against him.
According to the New York Daily News, the disgraced musician sent an affidavit to the court in which he accused his previous legal team of failing to engage him in the jury selection process and even failing to listen to his concerns.
R. Kelly said in his letter that during the jury selection process, he overheard several of the members mention they had watched "Surviving R. Kelly," which alarmed him.
He subsequently informed his attorneys, but "they shooed me off." "I was only a spectator in the process."
The "Ignition" hitmaker is presently being held at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center, as he awaits punishment.
After a 25-day trial, he was convicted guilty on all charges by a jury last year. He operated sexual assault operations for decades, targeting young ladies, girls, and even young guys who used to attend his sold-out concerts or whom he met in malls or fast food restaurants.
When girls and ladies did not obey his rules and regulations, the "I Wish" singer allegedly beat them with shoes, cords, and fists, and gave them spanks that left bruises.
R. Kelly allegedly referred to the spankings as "chastisements."
He and his new counsel contend that the jurors who viewed the contentious docuseries should not have been on the jury.
"As far as I could determine, there was no strategy involved in selecting the jurors who sat on my jury." At the very least, no trial approach included my involvement."
R. Kelly's attorneys urged that the May 4 sentence on his racketeering conviction in New York should be postponed since he faces another sex assault federal trial in August in Chicago Federal Court.
District Judge Ann Donnelly, however, refused the motion but rescheduled the sentence until June 16.
This is owing to a reported delay in getting a pre-sentencing report, but not as a result of the singer's request.
R. Kelly also requests a fresh trial in his Brooklyn, New York case.
