Last month we reported that Harlem's A$AP Rocky would be taking part in a documentary about his life on tour and his burgeoning stardom. Titled SVDDXNLY, the five-part series airs on Vice's Noisey channel. The first part, which is about 10 minutes long, is now available to watch. The following four parts will be rolling out each week and will feature home videos, interviews with friends and family, and footage of milestones from his career.
In part one, Rocky starts off discussing how he got to this point. "I always thought I'd be famous. I always imagined I would. I always felt it could happen but I never know how it would," he said. "I know I'm here for a purpose. That purpose is to create art. If I get recognition for it, that's a blessing; that's a plus."
He said when he was five years old he wanted to be an ice-cream truck man but by the time he was eight, he found "this gift of rhyme" that his brother introduced him to. He explained his brother used to make beats on the table while he rapped. One of the first verses he remembers was about his little sister and smoking weed.
"It didn't make sense but it rhymed," he said. "I was eight, but I was freestyling."
His mother and sister are also in the documentary, and they speak to Rocky's potential from young age.
Rihanna makes a cameo in the tour footage as well. She says she wishes her crowd looked as rowdy as his before she went on stage.
Directed by VICE's David Laven, the documentary is also set to features appearances from Drake, Danny Brown, Kathy Griffin, Snoop Dogg, Mackemore, and Jeremy Scott, among others.
The series features unreleased music from Rocky's upcoming album of instrumentals, Beauty & The Beast: Slowed Down Sessions (Chapter 1).
