NBC's Late Night With Seth Meyers may have a semi-strict two musical guests per week policy, but next week the show will be filled with nothing but pure alternative rock. Today (Aug. 6), it was announced that Annie Clark (better known as St. Vincent) will lead Meyer's 8G Band on Aug. 11 and 12.
Clark will serve as a temporary replacement for the 8G Band's normal leader Fred Armisen on Monday and Tuesday, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Clark isn't the first musical guest in Meyer's Late Night band - as EW pointed out both Dinosaur Jr. frontman J. Mascis and The Bangles' Susanna Hoffs have appeared on the program - but she is the first substitute leader.
Thus, her duties won't just end at playing the guitar and fronting the 8G Band, Clark is also expected to pick out the musical numbers for her evenings, which should be no problem for the frequent cover artist. In addition to her own arsenal of music, Clark has also taken on hits by Nirvana, INXS, Dolly Parton and Big Black in the past.
St. Vincent's short run on Late Night With Seth Meyers is just the latest event in a big year for Annie Clark. In February, she released her fourth solo album St. Vincent to nearly universal critical acclaim (the album made its way into Music Times' top 10 albums of 2014 thus far). Clark also made an appearance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies, fronting legendary grunge band Nirvana during a performance of "Lithium."
