Neil Patrick Harris is entering the woods as the newest Baker in an Encores! special presentation of "Into the Woods" at the New York City Center off-Broadway.
The 48-year-old singer-actor will take on the role of the "Baker," replacing two-time Tony awardee Christian Borle.
According to Theatre Mania, Borle, who was previously cast for the role, will now not be able to perform at the upcoming off-broadway show because of his unavailability.
Harris earned a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his outstanding performance in the title role in 2014's "Hedwig and the Angry Inch."
The stage veteran joins the ranks of other Broadway giants in this new special version of the classic "Into the Woods."

Set to open its curtains to the public on May 4, 2022, the revival of the musical "Into the Woods" features a star-studded cast.
"Waitress" hitmaker Sara Bareilles plays Harris' character's wife, the "Baker's Wife," while "The Color Purple" mainstay Heather Headley takes on the mantle of the Witch.
"High School Musical The Musical The Series" alum Julia Lester plays Little Red Riding Hood. At the same time, "Emily in Paris" star Ashley Park steps into Cinderella's glass shoes during the entire production.
Current "West Side Story" Broadway revival's Maria, Shereen Pimentel, will be at her tower as Rapunzel while Michigan native Cole Thompson makes his off-Broadaway debut as Jack.
This new "Into the Woods" production brings different Broadway stars from different generations, ushering in a new tradition at Encores.
Directed by Encores! Director Lear deBessone and Rob Berman, this special presentation of "Into The Woods" will run from May 4, 2022, until May 15, 2022.

Although the new production is an homage to the late Stephen Sondheim, the last performance of the musical on May 15 will mark the end of Rob Berman's 15-year stint as a music director for Encores!

"Into The Woods" opened in November 1987 at the Martin Beck Theatre, lasting 765 performances before it ended almost two years later in September 1989.
Bernadette Peters originated the role of the Witch on the Original Broadway Production of "Into The Woods" as Chip Zien, the famous voice behind Howard the Duck, was the one who created the Baker's role, which Neil Patrick Harris will now play.
