Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker's body is a map of his life's influences and inspirations. His latest ink is a tribute to a person who meant a great deal to him. A heartfelt memorial to Taylor Hawkins, the drummer of the Foo Fighters, is Barker's most recent ink, after a visit to celebrity body artist Mark Mahoney's shop.
The new ink is on his left foot. He had it tattooed while Kourtney Kardashian, his fiancee, was beside him. Not that he needed someone holding his hands while being pricked anymore.
The whole process was documented on Barker's social media account. Apart from the pic of Kourtney Kardashian supporting him, there is one of the back of Barker's head as Mahoney holds his foot steady. Two of the remaining photos showed a pair of hawk wings right across the top of the musician's foot.
It's an obvious reference to the late drummer.
The lovebirds cannot keep their hands off each other even through this painful process. There's a photo of them sharing a kiss for the cam. Mahoney was all professional, ignoring the very obvious PDA happening right in front of him. The final reveal of the tattoo showed that it is an intricate image of a bird soaring, with wings spread wide open.
The final photo of this uploaded series showed Barker and Hawkins sharing a moment backstage. The caption is everything, even if it comprises only of two words: HAWK forever." There's a hawk emoji for emphasis.
Due to Hawkins' sudden death in Colombia on March 25, the Foo Fighters canceled all their scheduled 2022 dates.
"I don't have the words. Sad to write this or to never see you again," Barker wrote at the time.
Barker also shared a happy time with Hawkins in detail.
"I'll never forget Laguna Beach days when I was a trash man playing in a punk rock band and you were playing with Alanis [Morissette]. You'd come watch me play in dive bars and be like, 'kid you're a star," Barker wrote.
Barker shared that he thought Hawkins was joking and quite crazy for saying that. But at the same time, it was those words that motivated and inspired him, filling him up with "hope and determination" that he would make it. He certainly did.
Travis Barker also wrote about the years that Blink-182 and Foo Fighters toured in Australia, which were full of fun.
