While Johnny Depp is a much more known actor, he is a guitarist also and no guitarist in his right mind would cut off his own finger, he said.

Johnny Depp attempted to persuade the jury in his defamation case that ex-wife Amber Heard was responsible for his fingertip being severed in 2015. How? By alleging that Amber Heard ruined his music career - no musician would do that to his career himself, he implied.

Depp accused Heard of sullying his character and harming his career by implying she was the victim of domestic abuse through a 2018 Washington Post op-ed,

Heard countersued, saying that Depp abused her numerous times prior to and throughout their marriage.

One of the trial's primary points of disagreement is a March 2015 altercation the pair claims occurred only weeks after they married while Heard was in Australia visiting Depp on the filming of the fifth edition of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film franchise.

Depp testified last week that Heard sliced the tip of his right middle finger with a glass vodka bottle she threw at him. According to Heard, Depp chopped the finger off himself by "slamming a hard plastic phone against the wall."

Heard's legal team has attempted to demonstrate her side of the tale during the trial by displaying a text message Depp made to his personal physician following the event, which read, I"I have chopped off my left middle finger to remind myself never to lose my right one again."

Depp's defense team questioned him about the text message during Monday's redirect phase of his testimony.

Depp stated that the text message was not a confession to self-mutilation, but rather a joke.

"When you say 'I got my finger cut off,' it doesn't necessarily mean you've done it yourself," Depp said.

He continued by stating that chopping off his finger was unimaginable for a guitarist. According to him, the guitar was "the only truly wonderful thing in my life, except from my children."

There is no way he would cut off his own finger to sabotage this wonderful opportunity to learn to play guitar, he argued.

Depp seems to be referring to his band, The Hollywood Vampires, which began performing live in September 2015 after been formed three years prior, in 2012.
