Machine Gun Kelly has a pretty good career as his streams and records sales skyrocketed when his sound transitioned into pop-punk music, but it seems like he's ready to go back to his first love, hip-hop.
According to Uproxx, the 32-year-old rocker defied all odds and gave pop-punk music a try a few years ago despite the sound of hip-hop launching him to fame.
Commercial-wise, MGK's past two albums, "Tickets to My Downfall" in 2020 and "Mainstream Sellout" this year, were his most successful records as they had singles that went number one in the United States.
Today, the singer spoke out, saying he's ready to get back into rapping as he's not done with hip-hop music yet.
In an interview with Audacy Music, the rapper-turned-rocker revealed his future in the music industry, saying he's making a rap album for himself and there's no other reason he's putting out such a record.
"If I keep doing things to prove things to people, I'm going to one: drive myself crazy, and two: not make a good product," he said.
MGK added that he created his previous rock albums because of his own will, and he also needed to "make people miss that sound."
For his plans this year, he's going on tour and will "step into where I left Hotel Diablo."
He will also expand his storytelling skills as a rapper and "find a new innovative sound for the hip-hop Machine Gun Kelly."
Even though his pop-punk career generated more streams and record sales for the singer, his other rap albums also became successful as they charted on the top five charts, except for 2017's "Bloom," which peaked at number eight.
Regarding the rapper's released singles, his collaboration with Camila Cabello for "Bad Things" peaked at number four, making it his only top five/top ten single.
Aside from the record mentioned above, his other albums were 2012's "Lace Up," "General Admission" in 2015, and "Hotel Diablo" in 2019.
This year, MGK is set to go on a tour along with an exciting lineup of surprise guests.
His "Mainstream Sellout" tour will begin its North American and European leg in Austin, Texas, this June before wrapping up in the Netherlands in October.
Guest performers include Avril Lavigne, Blackbear, Trippie Redd, Travis Barker, Willow, Iann Dior, Pvris, and 44 Phantom.
